Have you picked up any new hobbies, or learned something new over the past few months?
I have so many hobbies that I don’t have time to pick up new ones. Here are three I’ve doubled down on during COVID:
- I reacquainted myself with my sewing machine and have gone over-the-top making face masks. It’s been fun and therapeutic to sew again, and each mask is one-of-a-kind.
- I love cycling. It pushes me to limits I didn’t know I had while forcing me to live in the moment. Being the only woman in an all-male cycling group, I am constantly pushed to achieve more and love the comradery that comes with a group ride. We can’t always meet in person anymore so we will meet up on Zwift. I also love a good long mountain bike ride in the woods during winter.
- Cooking is a passion, one I have had more time to pursue given that my commute is now seconds versus hours. With a master’s in Arab studies and a love of foreign travel, I particularly like Middle Eastern cooking.
What makes you optimistic for the future?
Humans are resilient; I know we will come out of the current environment in a stronger
position as a species.
What’s Your WHY?
I am passionate about education, especially supporting people who cannot afford a good education. Education can lift you up in your school-age years. Intellectual curiosity and continuous learning as you’re older is one of the secrets to longevity.
